SEDONA, Ariz. - The Sedona Police Department's K9 Sam will soon be equipped with a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to a generous donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest will be embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of K9 Hobbs, Des Moines, IA - EOW 12-12-23" and is expected to be delivered within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity that has been providing bullet and stab protective vests, as well as other assistance, to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies across the United States since 2009. These vests, which are custom fitted, U.S. made, and NIJ certified, have proven to be lifesaving for K9 officers. To date, the organization has provided over 5,472 vests to K9s in all 50 states, with a total value of $6.9 million, thanks to the support of private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. Even K9s with expired vests are eligible to participate. With an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the country, the need for protective gear is great. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions of any amount, but a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lb., and comes with a five-year warranty.

For those interested in learning more about the organization or getting involved as a volunteer, please contact 508-824-6978. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. also provides information, lists events, and accepts donations through their website at www.vik9s.org. Contributions can also be mailed to P.O. Box 9, East Taunton, MA 02718.

The Sedona Police Department is grateful for the support they have received from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and the opportunity to provide K9 Sam with the necessary protection to carry out his duties. The donation of this body armor reaffirms the commitment to the safety and well-being of their four-legged officers.

In the words of the Sedona Police Department spokesperson, "We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Sam is an important member of our team, and this vest will provide him with the crucial protection he needs to stay safe while serving our community."

With the delivery of the vest expected in the coming weeks, K9 Sam will soon be able to perform his duties with an added layer of security. This donation serves as a reminder of the importance of equipping K9 officers with the necessary gear to ensure their safety while they work tirelessly to protect and serve.
